Is TorBox Down? How to Check and Fix Issues

If TorBox is not working for you right now, the most likely explanation is not that TorBox itself is down. TorBox outages are relatively rare — the more common causes are a misconfigured addon, an expired API key, a cached link that has been removed, or an ISP throttling issue. This page covers how to check TorBox’s actual status and how to fix the most common problems.

How to Check If TorBox Is Actually Down

Before troubleshooting your setup, confirm whether TorBox is experiencing a genuine outage.

  • TorBox status page — go to torbox.app and check the homepage for any service announcements. TorBox posts outage notices directly on the site when there are known issues.
  • TorBox Discord — the official TorBox Discord server is the fastest source for real-time outage information. Search for recent messages in the announcements or support channels.
  • Reddit r/torbox — search for recent posts about issues. If TorBox is down multiple users will be reporting it simultaneously.
  • DownDetector — search for TorBox on downdetector.com for community-reported issues and a timeline of reports.

If none of these sources show a confirmed outage, the problem is almost certainly with your setup rather than TorBox’s servers. Work through the fixes below.

The Most Common Causes and Fixes

1. Your API Key Has Expired or Is Incorrect

The most frequent cause of TorBox appearing to be down is an invalid or expired API key in your Stremio addon or Kodi configuration. TorBox uses an API key rather than a username and password — if this key is wrong or has been regenerated in your TorBox account, all streams will fail to load.

Fix: Log into your TorBox account at torbox.app, go to your account settings, and copy your current API key. Open your Torrentio or Comet addon settings in Stremio and paste the new key. Alternatively reinstall the addon from scratch with the current key.

2. The Specific Link Is Not Cached

TorBox streams from its cache — files it has already downloaded and stored on its servers. If you click a link and TorBox does not have it cached, it needs to fetch it first. During this fetch period the stream may appear to fail or time out, which can look like TorBox being down.

Fix: Try a different stream source for the same content. In Stremio scroll down the stream list to find other available links. Cached links load instantly — links marked as downloading are being fetched and may take time to become available.

3. The Torrentio or Addon Configuration Is Wrong

If you recently updated Stremio, reinstalled an addon, or changed devices, the TorBox integration in your addon may need reconfiguring. A misconfigured addon shows no streams or shows streams that fail to play — both of which look like a TorBox outage.

Fix: Go to torrentio.strem.fun, configure your settings, select TorBox as your debrid provider, enter your API key, and reinstall the addon by clicking the Install button. This replaces any broken configuration with a fresh one.

4. Your ISP Is Throttling Your Connection

Some ISPs throttle streaming traffic, particularly from debrid services. This causes slow loading, buffering, or apparent connection failures that are easy to mistake for a TorBox outage. The tell-tale sign is that the issue only occurs on certain content or at certain times of day — typically evenings when ISP throttling is most active.

Fix: Use a VPN to bypass ISP throttling. Connect to a VPN server before launching Stremio and test whether streams load correctly. If they do, ISP throttling is the cause rather than TorBox.

5. Your TorBox Plan Has Expired

If your TorBox subscription has expired your account reverts to the free tier which has significant limitations including a 10GB file size limit and restricted cached streaming. This can appear as streams suddenly stopping to work across the board.

Fix: Log into torbox.app and check your subscription status. If your plan has lapsed renew it to restore full functionality. See our TorBox Essential vs Pro guide to confirm which plan suits your usage.

6. The Content Has Been DMCA Removed from Cache

TorBox occasionally removes specific cached files following DMCA requests — the same issue that affected Real-Debrid significantly in 2025-2026. If a specific film or episode is not available through TorBox, it may have been removed from cache rather than TorBox being down entirely.

Fix: Try searching for the same content through a different source or at a different quality level. If the content is available on Usenet, the TorBox Pro plan includes Usenet access which is less affected by DMCA removals than torrent-sourced content.

When TorBox Is Actually Down

Genuine TorBox outages do occur occasionally. When TorBox confirms a service issue the status banner at the top of this page will be updated to reflect it. During a confirmed outage there is nothing to fix on your end — wait for TorBox to restore service and monitor their Discord or status page for updates.

If TorBox is experiencing extended downtime and you need an alternative, see our debrid service comparison for current alternatives including AllDebrid and Premiumize.

TorBox Is Working But Streams Are Slow

If TorBox is confirmed active but streams are buffering or loading slowly, the issue is almost always one of three things:

  • Internet speed — check your connection speed at fast.com. A minimum of 25 Mbps is recommended for reliable HD streaming via debrid. See our speed test interpreter for a full breakdown.
  • Wi-Fi vs ethernet — a wired ethernet connection to your streaming device delivers significantly more consistent throughput than Wi-Fi, particularly for high-bitrate 4K streams.
  • ISP throttling — as above. A VPN resolves throttling if that is the cause.

Still Not Working?

If none of the above fixes resolve your issue, the TorBox support team and community are the best next step. The official TorBox Discord is the fastest route to support from both the team and experienced community members. You can also submit a support ticket from within your TorBox account dashboard.
