IPTV Apps Removed from Google Play: What To Do

Last updated: June 2026.

If you have opened Google Play or the App Store recently and found your IPTV player app missing, you are not alone. A wave of coordinated removals targeting IPTV applications has been under way in 2026, and the timing follows a clear pattern: the biggest sweeps happen around major live sport events, not between them. With a major international tournament starting this week, this is worth understanding now rather than after your app disappears.

This post explains what happened, which apps were removed, what is still available through official channels, and exactly how to get back up and running on every device.

What happened and why the timing matters

In early 2026, during a major international cricket tournament, a coordinated enforcement action resulted in 36 IPTV player applications being removed from Google Play and the iOS App Store. The apps removed collectively had over 26 million downloads. The same action saw over 140 websites suspended and a further 279 streaming sites blocked at ISP level under a court injunction.

The key detail is the timing. These removals did not happen between events, during a quiet period when enforcement teams were working through a backlog. They happened at the peak of a live sporting tournament, precisely when demand for IPTV streams is highest and when the largest number of users would be affected simultaneously.

The pattern is now established. Rights holders have demonstrated both the capability and the willingness to secure app store removals during live events, not just after them. With a major international football tournament beginning this week, that same enforcement infrastructure is active right now. Apps that survived the cricket action may not survive this one.

It is also worth being clear about what these removals target and what they do not. The apps removed are player applications: they display streams from a playlist URL that you supply. The apps themselves do not host or provide any content. The removal logic is that these apps are the most common access point for users loading unauthorised streams, and removing them from mainstream marketplaces reduces casual access even if it does not eliminate determined users.

That distinction matters for you practically: the app being removed from the store does not affect its functionality. An APK downloaded before removal, or sideloaded after, works identically to one installed from the store. The app has not been broken, blocked, or compromised. It has simply been delisted.

Which apps were removed

The following apps were confirmed removed from Google Play and/or the iOS App Store during the March 2026 enforcement action:

  • XCIPTV — removed from Google Play. Still fully functional as a sideloaded APK on Android and Firestick.
  • IPTV Smarters Pro — removed from the LG Content Store; server-side blocked on Samsung Tizen. Still available on Google Play, Amazon App Store, and iOS App Store as of this post.
  • Televizo — removed from Google Play.
  • VU IPTV Player — removed from Google Play and iOS App Store.
  • XTV Ultra IPTV Media Player — removed from Google Play.

Status may change this week. Given the enforcement pattern described above, app availability on official stores during the current tournament cannot be assumed to be stable. Check your installed apps are still functioning and read the sideloading instructions below before you need them.

Several other major IPTV player apps have also seen store removals in 2025 and 2026 not directly linked to this specific action. Sparkle TV was removed from Google Play on May 3, 2026 following rapid growth to over 380,000 downloads. IPTV Smarters Pro was removed from the LG Content Store separately. The overall direction is consistent regardless of the specific trigger for each removal.

How to get your app back on Android and Firestick

On Android devices and Fire TV Sticks running Fire OS, sideloading is straightforward. The app is not gone — it has been removed from the store listing but the APK is available directly from the developer. Here is the process for the two most commonly affected apps.

Vega OS users: The Fire TV Stick HD (2026) and Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) run Vega OS, on which sideloading is permanently blocked. None of the methods below will work on those devices. Check Settings > My Fire TV > About to confirm your OS. If you see Vega OS, skip to the Smart TV alternatives section or consider a different streaming device.

XCIPTV on Firestick (Fire OS)

1
Enable Unknown Sources

Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > turn on Apps from Unknown Sources (or enable it specifically for Downloader).

2
Open Downloader

Install Downloader from the Amazon App Store if you do not have it already. Open it and enter the XCIPTV Downloader code: 730116. This loads the official XCIPTV APK directly.

3
Install and launch

Follow the on-screen prompts to install. Once installed, XCIPTV works identically to the Google Play version. Enter your M3U URL or Xtream Codes credentials to connect your provider.

For a full walkthrough including EPG setup and picture-in-picture configuration, see our XCIPTV review.

XCIPTV on Android TV or Android phone/tablet

The Downloader app is available on Google Play for Android TV devices. Enter Downloader code 730116 as above. On a phone or tablet, you can download the APK directly from the XCIPTV developer site (xciptv.com) and install it with Unknown Sources enabled in your device settings.

TiviMate on Firestick (Fire OS)

TiviMate has not been removed from Google Play but has never been available on the Amazon App Store. On Firestick, it has always required sideloading. Use Downloader code 540646. The process is identical to XCIPTV above. Note that activating TiviMate Premium on Fire OS requires the TiviMate Companion app — the in-app purchase route does not work on Fire OS.

Sparkle TV on Firestick or Android TV

Sparkle TV was removed from Google Play on May 3, 2026. There is no Downloader code listed as of this post. The APK is available from the developer’s own site (sparkle.tv). Download via Downloader using the direct URL, or transfer the APK via a file manager. See our Sparkle TV review for setup details.

How to get your app back on iPhone and iPad

iOS is significantly more restrictive than Android. There is no equivalent of sideloading through an APK — Apple does not permit app installation outside the App Store on standard devices without developer tools. This makes iOS users more exposed to the effects of store removals.

The practical options are:

  • IPTV Smarters Pro is still available on the iOS App Store as of this post and is the most widely supported free option for iPhone and iPad.
  • GSE Smart IPTV remains on the iOS App Store and is a strong alternative with iCloud sync and solid EPG handling. A Pro upgrade unlocks additional features for around £4.99.
  • Flex IPTV is available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac. Recording is available in the Pro version.
  • IPTV Green Pro is available on the App Store and supports split-screen viewing of up to four channels simultaneously.
  • Chillio is available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, with a Netflix-style interface and built-in debrid integration.

If your preferred iOS app disappears: Once an app is removed from the iOS App Store, reinstalling it is not possible through standard means. If you had it installed before removal, it may remain on your device but will not receive updates. The best protection on iOS is to have a backup app installed now, before an enforcement window. GSE Smart IPTV and IPTV Smarters Pro are the most resilient current options given their established App Store presence.

For detailed setup on any of these, see our iPhone and iPad IPTV guide or the Apple TV guide.

Smart TV alternatives

Samsung and LG Smart TV users face the most constrained situation. IPTV Smarters Pro has been removed from the LG Content Store and is server-side blocked on Samsung Tizen, meaning it cannot load playlists even if the app appears to install. See our Smarters on Samsung and LG guide for the full explanation.

IBO Player Pro is the most practical current option for native Smart TV use. It is available in both the Samsung Tizen store and the LG Content Store, supports M3U playlists and Xtream Codes, and has a per-device activation model with no ongoing subscription. It is not as polished as TiviMate but it is the best option available through official channels on both platforms. Our IBO Player Pro review covers setup from scratch.

If you want the flexibility to use TiviMate, XCIPTV, or other sideloadable apps on your TV, an external streaming device connected to your TV’s HDMI port is the most reliable long-term solution. A budget Android TV box or a Google TV Chromecast will run any of these apps without the restrictions of a Smart TV store. Our Firestick alternatives guide covers the current options across all price points.

What this means going forward

The March 2026 enforcement action established something important: app store removals during major live events are now part of the standard enforcement toolkit, not an exceptional measure. The infrastructure to execute them quickly is in place. The court orders enabling dynamic injunctions are already active in multiple jurisdictions. The cooperation between rights holders and app store operators is faster than it was two years ago.

This does not mean every IPTV player app will be removed from every store imminently. Apps that have not accumulated large download numbers are lower-priority targets. Apps available only through sideloading are outside the scope of store-level enforcement entirely. The pattern targets high-visibility, high-download apps on mainstream stores during peak event windows.

The practical takeaway is straightforward. Do not rely solely on a store-installed IPTV player app as your only way to access your service. Have a sideloaded backup installed and working before a major event, not after your primary app disappears. On Android and Fire OS, this takes five minutes with Downloader. On iOS, install a second app from the App Store now.

FAQ

Why was my IPTV app removed from Google Play?

IPTV player apps are being removed from Google Play and the iOS App Store following takedown requests from rights holders, typically timed around major live sport events. The apps themselves do not host content, but they are the most common way users access unauthorised streams, making them targets for store-level enforcement. The removal only affects the store listing — the app’s functionality is unchanged if you already have it installed or install it via sideloading.

Does removing an app from the Play Store break it?

No. If you already have the app installed, it continues to work normally. You will not receive automatic updates through the Play Store, but the app itself is unaffected. If you need to reinstall it, you will need to use the sideloading method described above — the Downloader codes for XCIPTV (730116) and TiviMate (540646) both install the official APK directly from the developer.

Can I still use XCIPTV after it was removed from Google Play?

Yes. XCIPTV is fully functional as a sideloaded APK. On Firestick (Fire OS only — not Vega OS), use Downloader code 730116. On Android TV, install Downloader from Google Play and enter the same code. On an Android phone or tablet, download the APK directly from xciptv.com with Unknown Sources enabled. The app works identically to the Play Store version.

What is the best IPTV app for Samsung or LG Smart TV now?

IBO Player Pro is currently the most reliable option available through official channels on both Samsung and LG Smart TVs. It is in both the Samsung Tizen store and the LG Content Store, supports M3U and Xtream Codes, and requires a small one-time per-device activation. IPTV Smarters Pro no longer works reliably on Samsung (server-side blocked) or LG (removed from store). See our IBO Player Pro review for setup instructions.

What IPTV apps are safe to use on iPhone and iPad?

IPTV Smarters Pro, GSE Smart IPTV, Flex IPTV, IPTV Green Pro, and Chillio are all currently available on the iOS App Store. Of these, GSE Smart IPTV and IPTV Smarters Pro have the most established App Store presence. iOS does not support sideloading on standard devices, so if an app is removed from the App Store it cannot be reinstalled until it returns. Having a second app already installed is the best protection.

Will more IPTV apps be removed during the World Cup?

It is not possible to say with certainty which apps will or will not be targeted. What the March 2026 action demonstrated is that enforcement during major live events is now established practice, the infrastructure to execute removals quickly is in place, and high-download apps on mainstream stores are the primary targets. Apps only available via sideloading are outside the scope of store-level enforcement. The most practical response is to have a sideloaded backup ready before the tournament rather than after a removal.
